- INFORMATION ABOUT LOADING AND RUNNING KWIKSTAT ON A TWO FLOPPY SYSTEM
-
- PREPARING THE DISKS:
-
- 1. Always use COPIES of the original disks. You can make copies of the
- disks by using the DOS DISKCOPY or COPY *.* commands. Label the copies of
- the disks WORKING DISK 1, WORKING DISK 2, WORKING DISK 3 and DATA DISK.
-
- 2. Copy the file COMMAND.COM from your DOS boot disk to the DATA DISK in
- drive B: by placing your boot disk in the A: drive, the DATA DISK in the B:
- drive and entering the command:
-
- COPY A:COMMAND.COM B:
-
- 3. To copy other necessary files to the DATA DISK, place the DATA DISK in
- drive B:, and place KWIKSTAT DISK 3 in the A: drive. At the A: prompt, enter
- the command MAKEDATA. This copies database files to the disk in drive B:.
- Follow the prompts on the the screen. When the process is finished, you will
- return to the DOS "A>" prompt.
-
- 4. After the MAKEDATA command is finished, place WORKING DISK 1 in the A:
- drive and enter the command FSETUP and follow the instructions on the screen.
- This will setup the program to work with your computer.ˇ
-
- IMPORTANT: When prompted by the setup program, be sure to setup the default
- path for data storage as B: so Kwikstat will know where your data is stored.
-
- Follow the prompts on the the screen. When the process is finished, you will
- return to the DOS "A>" prompt.
-
- 5. Each time you run KWIKSTAT (with WORKING DISK 1 in the A: drive and the
- DATA DISK in the B: drive) first enter the command
-
- SETCOM (this tells your computer where COMMAND.COM is located)
-
- Then enter the command
-
- KS (this begins Kwikstat)
-
- When finished running KWIKSTAT, enter the command
-
- RESET (resets COMMAND.COM to A:)
-
-
- USAGE NOTES:
- -----------
- 1. When you are running KWIKSTAT from a floppy disk, and request an analysis
- that is not on the disk that is currently in drive A:, a message will appear
- on the screen telling you that the module requested could not be found on the
- current disk. You will be prompted to change disks or press Esc to cancel the
- request. To run the analysis, place the appropriate disk in the A: drive, and
- press Enter. The message will read something like this:
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------------
- | Program file KS3STAT.EXE is not on this disk. |
- | Press Esc to exit request or change disks, then press Enter |
- ----------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The following modules/programs are on these disks:
-
- MODULE DISK PROGRAM NAME
- -------- ---- ------------
- Setup 1 KSETUP.EXE
- Database 1 KS3.EXE
- Statistics 2 KS3STAT.EXE
- Crosstabulations 2 KS3CROS.EXE
- Regression 2 KS3REG.EXE
- t-tests and ANOVA 2 KS3AOV1.EXE
- Non-Parametrics 2 KS3NPAR.EXE
- Life/Survival 3 KS3LIFE.EXE
- Simulations 3 KS3SIMU.EXE
- Utilities 3 KS3UTIL.EXE
-
- After you finish running that analysis, you will be prompted to put DISK 1
- back into the A: drive.
-
- 2. If you want to avoid some of the disk swapping, you can erase enough
- unnecessary files on disk 1 to place at least one of the analysis modules on
- disk 1. For example, here are files you can erase on disk 1 (Don't do this on
- the original disk, do it on a copy!):
-
- INSTALL.EXE (These two files are needed to load to a hard disk.)
- TXINSTAL.INI
- If you are not using a Hercules monitor, you can erase:
- MSHERC.COM
- HERCLJ.EXE
-
- That should provide you with enough space to copy one of the modules onto
- Disk 1. Copy a file such as KS3STAT.EXE (Descriptive stats module) onto
- disk 1 (from disk 2). When you have done this, you will no longer have to
- swap disks to go from the main menu (Analyze) to the descriptive stats
- module. Do this with the module you access most.
-
- 3. We provide a way to run Kwikstat on a two 360K-floppy system since some
- customers continue to need this option. However, for easiest use, we
- recommend a hard disk installation. Given the option, choose a hard disk
- system to run KWIKSTAT. Or, if you have at least 720K on a floppy disk, you
- can run the entire program from that disk, and avoid swapping disks. If your
- computer has a 3.5 inch drive or a 1.2M 5.25 inch drive as well as your 360K
- 5.25 inch drive, you can use the INSTALL program to install KWIKSTAT onto your
- 3.5 inch or 1.2M 5.25 inch drive, then run the entire program from that disk.
-
- If you run KWIKSTAT on a single disk on A:, and your computer boots from
- the A: drive, copy the file COMMAND.COM onto your KWIKSTAT disk.
